Dr. Ketchum recognized Myles “Tiger” Kampwerth and Konnor Kueper for their recent success at the State Golf tournament.  Myles and Konnor represent the first showing in school history at the state tournament.  Both students represented Central well.  Myles is involved in many activities at Central.  Konnor, as a freshman, plans to get involved more over the next few years at Central.  Congrats to both boys for their hard work and representation at the State Golf tournament.

We were informed last week that Central was selected to receive $50,614 of Digital Equity Grant funds from the State of Illinois.  Funds from this grant will be used to purchase new Clear Touch devices (similar to those that are installed in the library) in multiple classrooms.   We are currently in the process of getting a bid on the purchase and install and the plan is to replace multiple old smartboard and projector systems with the new technology this summer.

Central will again be hosting the district-wide curriculum alignment meeting on October 29th.  At this meeting, teachers from the feeder school junior highs will have the opportunity to meet and discuss curriculum with teachers from Central.  We will also provide space for elementary school teachers to meet with representatives (who teach the same grade level) at other schools in our district.  The day will begin with a motivational speech from former Illinois State Superintendent of the Year, Jim Burgett.

Based on information we collected last spring, there were a total of 183 8th grade students in our district.  Out of that total, 149 of those students enrolled at Central and 34 enrolled at Mater Dei.  To put that in perspective, 81% of the 8th grade students in our district last year enrolled at Central.

Dr. Foutch updated the BOE on the West Wing Remodel of the Science and Food labs.  The science lab remodel is moving along very quickly.   The plans are nearing completion and we greatly appreciate having our science teachers input at every step along the way of this project.  The teachers selected a flexible seating design for three of the classrooms that will work extremely well for both the present day needs of our students and also well into the future.

Dr. Foutch is currently in the process of collecting bids from 3 different contractors for the Foods Lab remodel.  This project will include the refinishing of all the current cabinets (painting with new cabinet doors and drawer faces) and also the install of new counter tops.  The three contractors that have been contacted are DBA Cabinetry, Don Voss, and Brad Toennies.

Our Health Life Safety amendment for the asbestos abatement and flooring project has been approved by the Illinois State Board of Education.  We have not received word in regards to our School Maintenance Grant proposal at this time.
