E-Learning Plan

Dear Cougar Students and Families,

We hope everyone is doing well and staying safe and healthy! Please know, we are very realistic and completely understand that Central is entering an extremely unfamiliar educational situation and your teachers are learning this new method of instruction as well. It will be necessary to maintain a collaborative approach and mutual understanding that we are embracing a new approach to full-time teaching and learning. Additionally, please remain dedicated to your typical routine and work ethic with regards to your classes. If you remain positive and cognizant of these ideas, you will continue to increase your knowledge, understanding, and application across the curriculum. Moving forward, the current plan is to implement a full-time, E-Learning Plan and there is no additional State guidance at this time that would impact this decision. If there are changes, we will continue to proactively communicate and if you have questions regarding our E-Learning Plan, please don't hesitate to communicate with your teacher via email or Google Classroom. In addition, you may also contact the Central office by phone: 618-526-4578 or email:[email protected]. Keep working hard and together we will build a better world! #imaginegreatness

Attendance:

  • Students must check in to their 1st hour teacher's Google Classroom by 3:00pm each day (Monday-Friday) to be counted present for the academic day. Failure to do so will result in an Unexcused Absence, which would ultimately result in no credit for that day's coursework.
    • Specifically, complete the following steps to complete attendance:
      • Go to your 1st Hour Google Classroom.
      • Click on the Form titled "eLearning Attendance" and complete the form by 3PM every school day.
    • In the event a student is having technical difficulty with a device, please email your teacher from any device to confirm attendance or for connectivity issues, please have a parent or guardian call the Central Office (618-526-4578) to confirm your attendance for the day.
    • As an incentive, if you have perfect, check in attendance for the remainder of the semester, you will be exempt from 2nd semester final exams for all non-dual credit courses.
    • With the start of E-Learning, all normal attendance days will be counted. Any previously scheduled days off or weekends will not count as attendance days. You may still complete work on these days but will not be required to check in for attendance on previously scheduled off days or weekends.
    • After you check into your 1st hour teacher's Google Classroom, you are also expected to check for new announcements in each of your other classes.
    • Lastly, if you have any questions about accessing your teacher's GoogleClassroom, please communicate directly with your first hour teacher for their classroom code.

CCurricular Requirements:

  • Students will be directed by individual teachers within departments regarding the curricular requirements for your courses.
  • Across your daily schedule, class periods may vary regarding the types of activities, assignments, and assessments that will be required for a grade.
  • If you have questions about an assignment, please work directly with your teacher first. It is also okay to search for information online or ask a peer for assistance.

Special Education and 504 Students

Students who receive accommodations through special education or 504 plans will be provided with accommodations equivalent to those outlined in their IEP or 504 plan. Our special education teachers will work with general education staff to determine the appropriate accommodations as needs arise. Help will also be provided via email, telephone, Google Hangouts, Zooom, or other platforms.

Technology and Assistance:

  • If you do not have Internet or WiFi access or know a friend or neighbor that does not have access, please let us know that information as soon as possible. We will work with you or those individual families to obtain access. That information should be sent immediately via email to [email protected] or via phone to 618-526-4578.
  • Students: while full-time E-Learning is occurring, please understand that GoGuardian is also on full-time (24/7) for your learning, health, and well-being. You are expected to follow the rules with regards to the appropriate use of your Chromebook.
  • If you are having difficulty with your device or for any other school related technological questions please complete the following form https://bit.ly/CHS71Support and you will receive a response as soon as possible from our tech support team.

Transition Back to Face-to-Face Instruction
When students return to onsite instructions, we will review all "new"material that was assigned during eLearning days. After teachers review the material an assessment will be given to identify common gaps in knowledge. If gaps are discovered, then teachers will re-teach that material and continue to assess for learning.

Also, as we transition back, our eLearning Team will work with our School Improvement Team to analyze and improve the effectiveness of our "eLearning to Onsite" transition plan. These groups will follow the model below:
